Lead Magnet Launch Checklist
Lead magnet launched across all channels. Tracker capturing downloads, channel attribution, nurture engagement. Day-30 post-launch report.
Before you start
- Lead magnet asset finalized and reviewed
- Landing page and email gate configured
- Distribution channels approved
- Lead magnet content (ebook, template, calculator, etc.)
- Target audience and value proposition
- Distribution plan (organic, paid, partner, communities)
The steps
- Audit the landing page for conversion — Check: clear value prop above the fold, email field minimal-friction (just email — name optional), social proof if available, mobile-friendly, page-load <2s. Run a 5-second test with someone outside the team.
- Set up the delivery flow — Confirm: form submission triggers welcome email with download link, lead added to CRM with source tag, automation kicks off the nurture sequence. Test end-to-end with a fresh email — don't trust 'it should work'.
- Build the 4-email nurture sequence — Email 1 (Day 0): delivery + 'how to use' tip. Email 2 (Day +3): related content + soft pitch. Email 3 (Day +7): customer story or case study. Email 4 (Day +14): direct offer (demo, trial, related deeper resource). Each email under 150 words.
- Plan distribution — Channels: organic social (LinkedIn primary), email blast to existing list, partner cross-promotion, communities (Slack/Discord/forum), and paid (LinkedIn ads, Google retargeting). Set a launch day with all channels firing.
- Pre-write social copy and visual assets — Pre-write: 5 LinkedIn posts (varying angles), 3 Twitter posts, 2 partner-share blurbs, 1 internal team announcement. Create 2-3 visual assets (graphic + animation if possible). Avoid scrambling on launch day.
- Set up tracking and goals — Configure: UTM tagging per channel, conversion goals in analytics, weekly review cadence. Define success metrics: downloads, email open/click rates, downstream conversions (trial, demo).
- Launch and monitor first 7 days — Launch day: fire channels in coordinated wave (morning ET typically peaks). Monitor: errors in delivery flow, social engagement, paid CPA. Adjust within 24-48h if any channel underperforms relative to baseline.
- Post-launch report at Day 30 — Aggregate: total downloads, channel breakdown, nurture engagement, conversions. Report to marketing leadership. Identify what worked for next launch.
If it goes wrong
Welcome email lands in spam
Test deliverability across major providers (Gmail, Outlook, corporate). If consistent spam, fix sender reputation, SPF/DKIM, or content trigger words before launch.
Lead magnet downloads are high but no downstream conversion
Audit the nurture sequence — too long a delay between download and offer, or wrong offer. Tighten the funnel.
Paid spend exhausted in 2 days with poor results
Cap daily spend, monitor first 24h closely, kill underperforming creative quickly. Don't ride bad creative.
