Browser Agent

A browser agent is an AI agent that uses a real web browser as its tool — clicking, typing, scrolling — to operate web apps that lack APIs.

Browser agents (Claude Computer Use, OpenAI Operator, Browserbase agents) extend AI to the long tail of web apps without official APIs. They're slower and more error-prone than API-based tool use, but they unlock everything that has a browser interface — which is everything.

Example

Filing a state license renewal that has no API: the browser agent navigates to the portal, fills the form, uploads the doc, submits — same path a human takes.

Are browser agents reliable?

Less than API-based tool use. UIs change. Use for tasks where API isn't available or hourly volume is low.
